In his own words...

"I bring together three distinct but complementary approaches in my work: pastoral counseling for those seeking support grounded in spiritual and religious frameworks, secular psychotherapy for those who prefer a clinical approach without religious content, and philosophical practice for those drawn to examining life's deeper questions through reasoned inquiry. Depending on your needs and preferences, we may work within one of these modalities or weave them together in a way that honors your unique perspective and circumstances. Whether you come from a faith tradition, identify as secular or agnostic, or find yourself somewhere in between, you are welcome here. My commitment is to meet you where you are and provide the kind of support and exploration that resonates with your values and serves your journey toward greater coherence, meaning, and wellbeing."

The Approach

Dr. Carroll recognizes that life stressors often manifest as psychological symptoms. His integrative approach addresses both the presenting concerns and their deeper roots. He believes that most people are not pathologic or even diagnosable, but are simply having a hard time with this hard life. Thus, philosophical counseling.

Unlike traditional psychotherapy, which often focuses on diagnosing and treating mental health conditions, philosophical counseling aims to empower individuals to grapple with existential concerns, confront ethical dilemmas, and uncover their authentic values and worldviews.

Dr. Carroll combines diverse theoretical and methodological perspectives to offer a unique approach to psychotherapy & philosophical counseling. The practice integrates rigorous philosophical inquiry with psychotherapeutic education and experience, creating a space where intellectual exploration meets practical transformation, exploring the whole person.

Through various innovative approaches, he helps clients address the philosophical and psychological dimensions of their challenges and discover new possibilities for meaningful living.

This collaboration of methodological approaches represents a synthesis of psychology and philosophy—all in service of promoting psychological and philosophical health and well-being.
